We make English learning dynamic through literature, creative expression, and confident communication.
The English Department at Lucknow Public School is a vibrant hub where language comes alive through interactive lessons, engaging discussions, and a wide variety of resources. Equipped with modern teaching aids such as interactive smart boards, multimedia presentations, a fully functional language lab, and an extensive library of classic and contemporary works, the department offers students an immersive learning environment. Our collection includes novels, plays, poetry, biographies, literary journals, and reference books, encouraging reading for both academic and personal enrichment. Lessons often incorporate audio-visual materials, drama enactments, and collaborative projects, making English both relevant and enjoyable.
At LPS, our approach is carefully structured across levels. In the Lower School, students work on foundational grammar, vocabulary building, handwriting, and guided reading of simple texts, laying the groundwork for fluency. In Years 7 and 8, they begin exploring age-appropriate literature, improve comprehension skills, and apply creative writing techniques to compose poems, short stories, and descriptive essays. By Year 9 and beyond, they progress to advanced literary analysis, essay writing in multiple formats, critical appreciation of prose and poetry, and persuasive writing, along with developing strong public speaking skills required for debates, speeches, and academic presentations.
Learning extends beyond textbooks into a rich co-curricular landscape. Students participate in debates, declamation contests, theatre productions, poetry slams, spelling bees, and literary quizzes. The English Literary Club hosts storytelling competitions, author meets, scriptwriting workshops, and reading circles where students share and critique each other’s work. Special “Literature Weeks” feature dramatic performances, book fairs, and inter-house competitions.
To foster creativity and recognition, corridor and classroom displays regularly feature student essays, poems, creative posters, reviews, and original plays. These displays celebrate achievement, inspire peer learning, and make literary appreciation a visible part of school life. Our department also emphasizes skills for the modern world—digital writing, presentation design, research methodologies, and cross-cultural communication—preparing learners for academic and professional success.
We aim to nurture confident, articulate individuals who think critically, express themselves clearly, and appreciate the power of language to connect people and ideas. Through English at LPS, students don’t just learn a subject—they discover a voice that will serve them for life.
